Pulse-Storm Downburst Prediction Workshop Modules and CourseworkPSDP Home | Workshop Modules | Downburst Links Welcome to the Pulse-Storm Downburst Prediction (PSDP) workshop website. As of right now, there are no plans to teach the course in Fiscal Year 2000. As a result, we plan on using this website as an alternate vehicle for delivery of the coursework information. One of the goals of the PSDP workshop has been to educate the field forecaster concerning the prediction of severe "wet", "dry", and "hybrid" downbursts based on expected environmental conditions. Special focus was placed on the early detection of potentially severe downbursts via remote sensing (primarily WSR-88D radar data) and how to incorporate this information into the NWS warning process. Local studies were also solicited from field offices on this subject to further illustrate how to detect downbursts and downburst environments via other remote sensors, in-situ and/or model data. In addition to lectures given by subject-matter experts, there were also several excercises and scenarios throughout the workshop. To what extent those excercises will be represented on this site has yet to be decided. At this time, the focus of this website will be on the presentation of lecture-related materials of the subject-matter experts from previous PSDP workshops. Use the links along the left side of the page to navigate to different areas of this site. If you have an comments or questions about this site, please contact Andrew Wood. |
