First Step: Download
Each downloadable VISITview session or lesson is a zipped up self-extracting .exe file. The creater of the session(s) places a file either in an anonymous ftp directory or on a website so that the participants can download the lesson.
It is a good idea for the executable to be downloaded into the same directory or folder as the eventual lesson.
For the DLOC course, each lesson has a webpage with download instructions specific to that lesson. Click on one of these files and you should get a 'save as' dialogue box. For example, clicking on the Orient.exe file from the DLOC Orientation download page should give you a dialogue box like this.
Be sure to save your file in the appropriate directory shown on page 1.
Second Step: Extract the image and program files from the executable.
You can do this two ways:
- Opening 'my computer' and go the the folder containing orient.exe
- Opening the Windows Explorer and click on the filename orient.exe
You will get a Graphical User Interface (GUI) like this:

Click on extract and the files will expand into the same directory as the executable. Click on done when it's finished.
Once you have extracted the files into the appropriate folders, you are almost ready for your upcoming VISITview session. It is important that you be familiar with some of the VISITview files, in order to participate in the session.
