WDTB has designed a new course on Communicating Risks in High-Impact Events. Module 1 has been published to the NWS Learning Center: Search for "Crisis Communications Module 1" (Use Exact Search).
Module 1 addresses the growing need due to... Impact-Based Decision Support Services (IDSS) for improved communication with our Core Partners. The module provides a description of the crisis communication cycle model and uses actual stories of IDSS that the NWS provided during 2010-11, including the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill and the Enbridge Oil Spill in Michigan.
Module 2 of the Course (due out later in April) contains methods of getting stakeholder information useful for IDSS and will include an office Team exercise demonstrating one of the techniques.
The intended audience for this course is all NWS staff who will be providing communication to Core partners to support various types of IDSS activities from a one-time phone call to multi-month deployment. The WDTB Course web site (link below) contains all useful information for implementation this training. Let us know what you think about our newest training!
