RDA/RPG Build 13.0 Training

Part 1: RPG Build 13.0 Training

Radar Product Generator (RPG) Build 13.0 Training is now available. This build has a number of adjustments to the RPG dual-polarization algorithms, which will not be active until your Radar Data Acquisition Unit (RDA) is upgraded to dual-polarization technology (i.e., RDA Build 12.3). With the RDA Build 12.3 upgrade, two features will be temporarily unavailable:

• The updated Clutter Mitigation Decision (CMD) &
• The Automated Volume Scan Evaluation and Termination (AVSET) algorithms.

These two algorithms will then be restored when your RDA is upgraded to Build 13.0 (see Part 2 below).

There is one additional feature that is active irrespective of your RDA configuration. That feature is the Enhanced VAD Wind Profile.

Presentation

The training presentation in streaming format is available from this page for DoD, FAA, and NWS partners who wish to learn about RPG Build 13.0. You have the option to pause the presentation at any time as you go through the material. The presentation takes 15-20 minutes to complete.

Part 2: RDA Build 13.0 Training

The Radar Data Acquisition Unit (RDA) Build 13.0 Training is now available. With RDA Build 13.0, both CMD and AVSET return! However, this "new" CMD is much different from the "old" CMD. Other than one new parameter, AVSET is the same as before. Finally, there is a new technique for calculating Spectrum Width.

AVSET & CMD Availability

What's the easiest way for your office to know whether or not your radar's RDA/RPG configuration will have AVSET and CMD? The following questions will help you figure it out:

• Has your radar been upgraded to dual-pol (i.e., using RDA Build 12.1 or 12.3)?
  • NO: You will still have access to AVSET and CMD. However, these capabilities will be temporary unavailable when your radar is first upgraded to dual-pol.
  • YES: AVSET and CMD will be temporarily unavailable.
• After your radar is first upgraded to dual-pol, how will you get AVSET and CMD back?
  • When your RDA is upgraded to Build 13.0.
