Question: |
Can I test out? |
Answer: |
Most of the online instructional components will have a "test-out" available for those students who feel they know the subject matter sufficiently. This "test-out" can only be taken one time, and will require a score of 90 percent to get credit for completion of the instructional component. Even if you take the "test-out" and score the required 90 percent, you will still have the option to review the IC. |

Question: |
Can IC Core 0 be utilized over a network? |
Answer: |
The module was not designed for direct network access; it was designed to be run either on a local machine or through a web server. However, it does run correctly from a network or LAN drive with the following caveat. The module contains 7 separate video clips. The module runs correctly for multiple simultaneous users so long as each user does not access the same video clip at the same time. In other words, the module works best if the simultaneous users are staggered in starting the module by about 10-15 minutes. The user responses in IC Core 0 are kept internally by each "instance" of the module; hence, there are no conflicts with multiple simultaneous response. The module cannot store the responses and does not access any disks for write-access. |

Question: |
Can local cases be used for the simulations in AWOC? |
Answer: |
Yes. The local facilitator may develop simulations for AWOC using any cases needed to fit their local needs. The four AWOC cases released with simulation guides have been designed to assist the facilitator in developing structured simulations to support the training objectives of AWOC. |

Question: |
How do I know if I am an AWOC student? |
Answer: |
AWOC is open to National Weather Service employees who have completed the WSR-88D Operations residence course, or the Distance Learning Operations Course (DLOC) taught by WDTB. If you have taken one of these courses, you need to talk to your SOO, Training Officer (TO), MIC, or HIC and express your interest in attending AWOC. Your SOO or TO will register you for the course. You will manage your training via the WDTB Website and the NWS Learning Management System. |

Question: |
How does IC Core 0 interact with the LMS? |
Answer: |
Actually, IC Core 0 operates independently of the LMS (as well as every other AWOC module, for that matter). Responses gathered within the IC Core 0 module are not transmitted to the LMS, nor are they stored for future reference. The survey in the LMS was designed so the WDTB team could collect information about technical performance and student perceptions of the module. Credit for taking any AWOC module is granted only after taking and passing a test through the LMS. The LMS will not indicate that any module has been completed or attempted until the test has ben taken. |

Question: |
How does LMS keep track of course completion if you complete modules offline via CD/DVD? |
Answer: |
For WDTB courses, the LMS will only mark you complete if you take a test through the LMS. If you view the material offline, log into the course on the LMS, and complete the survey and test. The survey is not "required" but we value your feedback so we can improve our materials! |

Question: |
My bandwidth is too slow for IC Core 0. |
Answer: |
Use the self-extracting file (either low or high resolution). You can download the file once and re-use it for multiple students. Student responses are kept internally to the module, but are not stored once they are printed and the module is closed. |

Question: |
What are performance objectives? |
Answer: |
Performance objectives provide precise, measureable statements of the behaviors that training participants will be able to demonstrate on the job. They often specify the condition under which the behaviors will be demonstrated as well as the criteria for acceptable performance.
AWOC has performance objectives identified for each Instructional Component. Example (from AWOC Core Track IC 4): Using any or all of the 3 base moments in radar, participants will demonstrate the ability to detect and then mitigate: a) anomalous propagation, b) range folding, and 3) improperly dealiased velocities. |

Question: |
What are requirements for completing the AWOC? |
Answer: |
Currently, there are two AWOC Tracks (AWOC Core Track and AWOC Severe Track). The completion requirement for each track is to complete all five instructional components as described in detail at AWOC Home Page. Completion of each instructional component is described within the component, and usually requires successful completion of a short exam. You will receive a separate Course Certificate for the Core Track and the Severe Track. |
